World Enough & Time Program

Sunday, April 6:
Check into the Lodge and start to decompress!

Meet for group and workshop introductions. Investigate stories from the book, World Enough & Time, such as the history of diary keeping. Look at the neurological effect of fast-paced living.

Evening Program: Cocktail Party on the grounds of the Henry Miller Memorial Library. The party will include a presentation about Big Sur and Henry Miller by HMML executive director, Magnus Toren, as well as a  slide show of slow art by Barbara Bash.

Monday, April 7:
Full day of workshop sessions* & meals with group.paulus

Evening Program: “To Spring from the Hand: The Life and Work of Paulus Berensohn.” One of the first U.S. screenings of Australian filmmaker Neil Lawrence‘s documentary of this extraordinary dancer, potter, artist, and spiritual being. Informal discussion will follow. Weather permitting we will show this on the huge screen under the stars at the Library amidst the redwoods . The public will be invited. (If it is too cold or rainy we will show the film in the conference center at the Lodge).

(Alternative= “Rivers & Tides.” This film is a portrait of Scottish artist Andy Goldsworthy, who creates “earthworks” – ephemeral sculptures made from elements of nature. Director: Thomas Riedelsheimer.)

Tuesday, April 8:
Full day of workshop sessions* & meals with group  sarah

Evening Program: A presentation by Sarah Rabkin (pict. left) of UC Santa Cruz, writer & environmentalist.




Wednesday, April 9:

Full day of workshop sessions* & meals with group

Evening Program: Reading of work/sharing of words by workshop participants and Christian McEwen. Public invited.

Thursday, April 10:

Final breakfast as a group.

Morning workshop session including how to leave with the peace you’ve gained
Check out of the Lodge
Lunch together and goodbyes

*Sample workshop agenda:
-breakfast: 8:00-9:00am
-first morning session: 9:30-10:30am (Practice what it means to listen deeply. Read a poem, such as Tony Hoagland‘s “The Word.”*)
-short break for tea/coffee: 10:30-10:45am
-second morning session: 10:45am-12:30pm (Create a map of your heart.*)
-lunch: 12:30-2:00pm
-first afternoon session: 2:00-3:15pm (Take a slow walk and gather words that inspire you along the way.*)
-short break: 3:15-3:30pm
-second afternoon session: 3:30-5:00pm (Draw or write from prompts offered.*)
-supper: 6:30-7:30pm
